Survive the rules first
Most "deaths" in gang RP are actually bans, blacklists and faction removals. Read the rules, re-read them when they update, and when in doubt ask staff before acting.
Scene awareness
- Read the room. Is this a scene people want to continue, or are you ending it for them?
- Give others space to respond. Don't script every outcome. Offer, don't dictate.
- Know the rules for hostage, robbery and kidnap scenes. Many servers cap time, require a minimum number of police, or require specific demands.
Value your character's life
Real people don't charge into gunfights over small insults. If your character values their life, act like it: comply when outgunned, retreat when hurt, negotiate when you can. This is called fear RP, and it's the single biggest difference between a good criminal character and a nuisance.
De-escalation toolkit
- Talk first. Many conflicts can be resolved in conversation.
- Use third parties — a mutual contact can mediate.
- Retreat IC with a reason, not by logging off.
- If a scene is going wrong OOC, break out politely and sort it with the other players.
Never combat-log. Disconnecting to escape a scene is one of the fastest ways to get banned from a server.
When your character gets caught or killed
- Follow your server's rules on death, NLR and respawns exactly.
- Don't carry grudges OOC. The other player was playing a role too.
- Use it as story: a scar, a debt, a vendetta, a new alliance.
Protect your OOC self
- Keep passwords, real names and personal info out of the game and Discord.
- Don't share your screen or stream in a way that leaks IC info.
- Take breaks. Burnout is a real way to "die" in a long RP story.
